Sameh Al Waab: An Unexpected Surprise

Sameh Al Waab is a 2017 son of Sinan Al Rayyan and out of Sobh Al Rayyan (Ashhal Al Rayyan x Selma Al Rayyan). Sameh Al Waab was bred by Sheikh Abdulla Khalid Al Thani and is now owned by Al Obayyah Stud. Sameh Al Waab was also shown this past weekend at the 2022 Katara International Arabian Peninsula show, in class 10B, 4 - 6 year old stallions, earning a score of 90.06, which earned him 6th place.

Sameh Al Waab is substantial, and although not a tall horse, he is powerfully built.  Close-coupled with depth to his heart girth, broad through the chest, a good neck set and strong hind end are some of his outstanding qualities. For me, these are the conformational attributes that made him stand out amongst the many  thumbnail choices on You Tube, prompting me to click and watch his video.

Dahman by strain, his pedigree is also overwhelmingly Dahman, as more of his ancestors are of this strain, approximately 53%. The balance is shared almost equally by horses of the Saqlawi and Abeyyan strains, with a small touch of the Hadban Enzahi strain. A deeper look at the pedigree reveals the interesting manner in which he has been bred, as his sire is a maternal grandson of Ansata Sharifa (Ansata ibn Shah x Ansata Samantha), while his dam is a maternal great-grandaughter. Combined, Ansata Sharifa represents 18.75% of the pedigree. Also, in the 3rd generation, another interesting cross occurs, that of paternal siblings (Al Wajba Al Rayyan on the paternal side and Ashhal Al Rayyan on the maternal side). Together, they bump up the percentage of Safir (Salaa El Dine x Aisha) to 25%.  Ansata Halim Shah also exerts a larger percentage of genetic influence, through the 7 lines that trace back to him, a total percentage of influence at approximately 31.25%. These 3 horses together: Ansata Sharifa, Safir and Ansata Halim Shah represent 75% of the influence  in Sameh Al Waab's pedigree!
