*Bask (Witraz x Balalajka), Gene LaCroix astride |
Arabian Insider News is now available as a Podcast on Spotify, in addition to their video presence on You Tube. I was really surprised to find content available on Spotify, that does not exist elsewhere, for example, an interview with Gene LaCroix, Francesca Aragno and Greg Gallun. Its an interesting interview, the centerpiece of which focuses on Gene's memories (he was 15 at the time) of meeting *Bask for the first time in Poland,
"when *Bask came out, course and it was just about dark. I mean...you could...we were out in that little paddock...last time I was there, it was still there...where they come out of the stallion barn and the clock tower is in the background. It's just about dark and there's this high-headed horse with 4 white socks and he was real prancy. He wasn't just jogging, he was like real high-headed and his knees were coming level."When Gene LaCroix said: "and his knees were coming level," I remembered Glenn Jacobs' photo of Ansata Nile Echo, one of the most athletic Egyptian horses ever produced.

Not since *Sakr or even, *Faleh, has there been an Egyptian horse to rival their athletic ability. Ansata Nile Echo was a most balanced horse; the strength and elasticity of his hocks, matched the power and freedom in his shoulders. He was Judith Forbis' masterpiece, a historical blend of the ancestral elements that defined the Ansata breeding program over time.
Mr. Bart Van Buggenhout (then manager of Al Rayyan in Qatar), in a long ago issue of Arabian Horse World, called attention to a breeding nick that he felt existed between the stallion, Ansata Hejazi (Ansata Halim Shah x Ansata Sudarra) and the mare, Ansata White Nile (Prince Fa Moniet x Ansata Nile Gift). One of the horses that resulted from Bart's "nick" is the horse recognized throughout the world as "Mister Trot".
Do you know that there are 500,000 Arabian horses registered, who have *Bask in their pedigrees? Gene LaCroix mentioned this fact within the interview. I wondered over a similar legacy for Ansata Nile Echo, had he also been campaigned like *Bask, in some type of a performance discipline, receiving the kind of opportunities that *Bask enjoyed throughout his career.
