A KUWAITI VALENTINE

The inspiration for the Marengo blog started with Issue 68 of Desert Heritage Magazine and within the issue, a multi-page stallion ad for the straight Egyptian division of Giacomo Capacci Arabian horses. Of the 6 stallions that are part of the impressive offering, 3 stallions share genetic common ground through the mare, NK Nakeebya:
  • Dhari Al Ward by Hilal Al Nakeeb and out of Safeyyah Ezzain, a NK Nakeebya daughter by Ansata AlMurtajiz.
  • Naseem Al Rashediah, a son of Al Adeed Al Shaqab and out of Nabaweyah Ezzain, who like Safeyyah, is also a daughter of NK Nakeebya by Ansata AlMurtajiz.
  • Obay Al Masry is a son of a mare named Ablah Al Waab, who is a full sister to Safeyyah Ezzain as she is also by Ansata AlMurtajiz and out of NK Nakeebya.
A fourth stallion, Kharafi Al Danat is not directly connected through NK Nakeebya, however, Nooreddine Ezzain (his paternal grandsire) is out of NK Nada, whose dam, Nashua, is also the dam of NK Nakeebya.

Who is NK Nakeebya?

NK Nakeebya is a daughter of NK Hafid Jamil out of NK Nabeelah (Nahaman x Nashua). Dr. Hans J. Nagel, the breeder of NK Nakeebya, called her "NK Nabeelah's masterpiece." Watching the video footage of NK Nakeebya (thanks Jennifer Ogden), one will better understand why Dr. Nagel feels as he does. She has a fabulous long neck, well set on her body, longer, well-muscled forearms, shorter cannons, a deeper heart girth, a strong and smooth topline and generously muscled hindquarters. And yet, in spite of her strong and correct conformation, she has so much refinement! Her skin quality is fine with excellent pigmentation, she has larger, deeply black eyes, which are set lower in her head.  Her muzzle is not heavy nor boxy and her large, elastic nostrils are fitting for one who is rumoured to "drink the wind." She remains a true desert queen.

It's not that I took NK Nakeebya's influence for granted; I personally experienced that revelation, when I met her extraordinary daughters while in Kuwait, however, Giacomo Capacci's advertisement was a powerful statement of just how broad NK Nakeebya's influence had become over the last 12 years or so.  NK Nakeebya has established a dynasty of horses who are not only outrageously beautiful, they in turn are producing a level of enduring consistency within other breeding programs.
"NK Nakeebya was a heavenly gift, a super producer with whichever stallion that was tried." - the late Mr. Usamah Alkazemi
Mr. Salah Ahmad Al Terkait of Al Ward Arabian Stud owns NK Nakeebya and has bred several daughters and sons using primarily Ansata AlMurtajiz and his son, Nooreddine Ezzain. While I did not have the opportunity to visit Al Ward Stud,  I am aware of a daughter who was bred a little differently, Nakeebya AlWard, by Dahes Al Rayyan, an Ansata Selman son out of an Ashhal Al Rayyan daughter. The fact that Al Ward has named her with her mother's name is meaningful and yet another powerful statement concerning NK Nakeebya's influential impact.

****This blog post is lovingly dedicated to the memory of the late Mr. Usamah Alkazemi. He made it possible for me to visit Kuwait. It was an incredible opportunity and remains a highlight of my life.***
