AK Nazaar

AK Nazaar (*Ibn Moniet El Nefous x Fa Halima) photographer unknown
Fa Halima, in addition to producing Al Khalid, also produced AK Nazaar in 1982.  The most obvious difference between her 2 *Ibn Moniet El Nefous-sired sons was AK Nazaar's bay coat color. The Bedouin believed that a horse's coat color spoke of his character and of all the coat colors, the desert warrior preferred the bay for their strength, resilience and stamina. If you are a believer in genotype following coat color, look to several bay horses within his matriline, via the 1964 Babson mare, Sabrah, her sire, Fabah, her dam Serrasab, her maternal granddam (and Fabah's maternal sibling), Fay-Sabbah, plus the 1932 Babson imports *Bint Bint Sabbah and *Bint Serra I. Also, the following generation includes another bay, the EAO broodmatron, Bint Sabah, the dam of *Bint Bint Sabbah.

AK Nazaar was foaled 2 years before Al Khalid's brief life came to an end. He was a proven sire, his first foal was born when he was four years old. He sired a total of 24 horses, before being gelded in 2001. The Al Khamsa roster records 16 of those horses, born between the years 1986 and 1995. Of the horses listed within the Al Khamsa roster, 63% are daughters and 56% are bay in coat color, just like their sire. 5 of the 16 horses listed produced progeny, approximately 22 horses, of which 8 are bay (or 36%). Only 1 of the 5 produced grand progeny, of which, one out of two horses was bay in color:
  • 1986: MFA Zaarena (x MFA Tali Mareekha) - bay*
  • 1987: AK Jazara (x AK Jaliya) - bay
  • 1987: AK Nasria (x Bint Masria)*
  • 1987: AK Shah Risala (x *Lancers Rabha) - bay
  • 1987: The Zaar (x AK Hadiya)
  • 1991: Alaem Ibn Nazaar (x Pashas Miriya) - bay**
  • 1992: Sinnsational (x Kialiah)
  • 1992: Tahzahra (x AK Tahara)
  • 1994: Al Nasaad (x Bint Asaddia) - bay
  • 1994: Amber Azizaa (x *Gameerah)*
  • 1994: Rayzaar (x Moniet Bint Sabah) - bay
  • 1995: Monshara (x Monisah)*
  • 1995: Sar Nazaar (x Sar Farah)
  • 1995: Sarai Nazaar (x Bint Khalida) - bay
  • 1995: Maar Nisah (x Maar-Riana) - bay
  • 1996: Zalee in Mesquite (x Zaliaa) - bay
*Produced progeny  **Produced grand progeny

The 1995 mare, Sarai Nazaar, is interesting because her dam is an Al Khalid daughter. The combination of *Ibn Moniet El Nefous with Fa Halima represents 75% of the genetic makeup of this mare! 18.75% of the pedigree reflects the influence of Sabrah and her Babson ancestors. Bint Khalidah is also  a maternal sibling to Amber Aziza, as both mares are out of *Gameerah (Shaker El Masri x Gamila). As compared to the rest of the pedigree, this part of the pedigree, specifically the Inshass component through Rayana,  functions more like an outcross and helps to balance the intensity of crossing full brothers in one horse.

In closing, do you know that the name "Nazaar" is over 5,000 years old? It is an Arabic name for an eye shaped amulet that protects against the evil eye. In Judith Forbis' book, The Classic Arabian Horse, she writes that bay colored horses were compared to "rubies".  The ruby was considered an antidote to poison, grief and evil thoughts.  It's as if the horse himself, as expressed through his vibrant coat color, is the most perfect ruby of all, like AK Nazaar once was.

***I have been reading The Classic Arabian Horse  by Judith Forbis since I was 13 years old. Now, 50 years later, I am still reading. You should read this book too!***
