The Colour of Happiness

Arabian Insider posted a tribute video of Royal Colours recently, have you seen it? It's a beautiful video, set to a cinematic-type score, which includes a powerfully dramatic head shot approximately 9 seconds into the video. Make sure you are sitting down when you watch, to avoid that "weak-in-the-knees" feeling and a truly embarrassing moment, as you roll across the floor.

Royal Colours is a 2003 straight Egyptian stallion, sired by True Colours (Thee Desperado x Daheda) and out of Xtreme Wonder (The Elixir x Lenore Moniet).

Royal Colours (Thee Desperado x Xtreme Wonder) owned bt the Dubai Stud

Thee Desperado is his paternal grandsire, as well as his maternal great-grandsire (37.5% genetic influence) but what is even more interesting, in terms of focusing on a particular bloodline is The Minstril (Ruminaja Ali x Bahila), the sire of Thee Desperado. He appears as a paternal great-grand sire and twice maternal great-great-grandsire (25% genetic influence). While someone may dismiss this breeding as one that has been tried, once too many times, please let me remind you that there are not many sources of True Colours blood available to straight Egyptian breeders. I am sad to say this, as True Colours was an outstanding stallion, who died too soon. The turning point for me, in terms of developing a like for the horse, was a private conversation with the late Hansi Heck-Melnyk, in which she shared her opinion of True Colours. She liked him, alot. With all that said, the intensity of the Arabians LTD. breeding program is balanced by the outcross blood in the rest of the pedigree: Dalul, Moneef, Noosa, El Hilal, *El Mareekh, Kayed, Ferial and Glorieta Rabdania. More of the pedigree is representative of the blending of outcross blood, than it is for linebreeding, which makes this particular horse so interesting and exciting. He's yet another stallion, who makes me wish that I had a mare, just so I can breed to him, even if it means one more Desperado.
