Doug Dahmen called this photo of *El Shaklan an "iconic body shot". Taken in Santa Ynez, California by Scott Trees, this photo inspired many people to breed horses just like him. |
On Sunday, I was listening to Evie Tubbs-Sweeney's interview with Doug Dahmen on the We Love Arabian Horses podcast. The interview is in 2 parts: Part 1, which covers the impact that *El Shaklan had on Doug's life and Part 2, which is focused on Ali Jamaal's influence. Something that Doug said struck me and since then, I have been thinking alot about it. He recalled how the late Lenita Perroy had come to his farm with the above Scott Trees photo, which she had found in an issue of Arabian Horse World magazine. The photo was her visual, to define beyond any doubts, the type of Arabian Horse she wanted to breed. How many other people were equally inspired by this photo? In this year's Pride of Poland Sale, the Bialka State Stud had consigned a mare named Celita, sired by Lawrence El Gazal, who carries 2 lines to *El Shaklan, through his dam, Lara El Ludjin. This particular mare, a double great-great granddaughter, in my opinion, affirms the choice that Lenita Perroy made, all those years ago at Doug's farm, clutching a photo of this magnificent horse. A beautiful mare like Celita reinforces Lenita's wisdom (she really knew what she liked and was not afraid to pursue it) and genetically confirms the global significance of *El Shaklan into the present day.
***Many thanks to Scott Trees, without you, there would be no iconic body shot and to Sigi Siller, it was your steadfast belief in your horses, like *Shaker el Masri,*Estopa and their son, *El Shaklan, which inspired us all***
