Tutto Arabi released the September edition of their magazine this past week. Have you had a chance to look at the issue yet? Tre Balzane Stud placed a glorious visual treat in the form of a 2-page advertisement, NATURAL IS THE NEW BEAUTY. In the lower left corner of page 210 appears a head shot of their chief breeding stallion, Nabeel Al Khaled. A very nice filly sired by him, TB Malala (x TB Muneera), appears on the following page. What I enjoy most about Tutto Arabi, is the opportunity to learn about new horses, for example, this particular stallion, bred by Sheikh Khaled Ahmed Bagedo of Al Khaled Stud and now owned by Monika Savier of Tre Balzane. A 2010 son of the late F Shamaal (Maysoun x Sarameena), out of Ansata Nile Pearl, Nabeel Al Khaled is representative of the breeding nick that existed between Ansata Hejazi and Ansata White Nile, a cross which produced really special horses like Ansata Nile Echo, a full brother of Nabeel's dam, Ansata Nile Pearl.
Nabeel's pedigree is very interesting, from the perspective that there are two dominant sources of influence driving the pedigree, one of which we find in the matriline, which runs through 4 generations of the Ansata Nile family to the foundress of this family, Falima, and then to the RAS mare, Bint Sabah. This particular matriline is also shared by a few other horses in the pedigree like Ansata Halim Shah, *Ansata Bint Misr, Ansata Sudarra. We cannot miss acknowledging the significance of the Ansata program in the genetics of this stallion, however, the line breeding to Moniet el Nefous, through horses like *Morafic and his sons, *Ibn Moniet el Nefous, TheEgyptianPrince, Kayed, Ansata Shah Zaman, plus Pritzlaff's *Bint Moniet el Nefous *Ansata Bint Mabrouka and the German Mouna daughter, Mahiba is so significant! Once combined, the influence of Moniet is daunting. It's huge, like 15 lines that lead back to her. Remember, Moniet el Nefous was foaled in 1946, so her position in the pedigree is further back, where the percentage points are also lower, in this case, less than 10%. However, this fact does not diminish the reality of her frequent appearance.
In an article which appeared in Desert Heritage Magazine, Monika Savier said of Nabeel that he possesses a friendly, trusting nature and is a horse that you can depend on. His sire, F Shamaal, a silver world champion stallion bred by the Friedmann family, was also a very gentle, likeable horse, who was loved by everyone. Maysoun, the sire of F Shamaal, was a generously kind, loving stallion, who was easy to handle and he in turn, passed his good temperament on to his get. And let us not forget, *Ansata Ibn Halima, the son of the kind and gentle mare. It's noteworthy that we have multiple generations of stallions who are tractable, friendly horses, right up to the present day. Their remarkable characters prove all that we have heard over the years about people loving dispositions and an "in your tent character", right? All these long ago stallions, combined together, have had a significant impact on the character of Nabeel Al Khaled, an exciting stallion and yet, a timeless horse, who furthers the genetic influence of his beloved ancestors into this very modern world.
"You can trim overgrown hooves and you can put weight on a thin horse but you can't change a horse's disposition....my favorite color is gentle." - Tom Groneberg, One Good Horse
